Worker dies in accident on Latvian-Belarusian border

During construction work of the Latvian-Belarusian border on Tuesday, March 12, the driver of an excavator of "Pamatceļš" Ltd Road” has died, according to construction company Citrus Solutions.

The company explained that the accident occurred when the excavator slipped into the river. "Pamatceļš“ Ltd is a subcontractor attached to the construction of the border by Citrus Solutions Ltd.

“Given the need for a rapid response, companies are currently cooperating with all responsible authorities and the State Police, as well as all necessary measures are being taken to ascertain the circumstances of what happened,” said Anna Celma, communications specialist at Citrus Solutions, stressing that information about what happened has also been passed on to the State Labor Inspectorate.

State Police were also at the scene. The client of the project State JSC “State Real Estate” (VNĪ) has also been informed of the events.

VNĪ Board Member Jeļena Gavrilova said that the accident took place in Krāslava municipality, near Porečje village, 350 meters from border sign No. 43. VNĪ has commenced an inspection of the circumstances of the accident and evaluates whether the construction contractor has complied with all safety measures at the site.

The border construction project team extends its deepest condolences to the deceased's loved ones.
