The national airline airBaltic has cancelled flights to Egypt until further notice, as the airline's representative Janis Vanags told Latvian State Television Thursday night.

Vanags said that airBaltic had received recommendation from the authorities to not perform flights to Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt, and the flights have been cancelled until further notice.

Passengers are to turn to companies where they bought their tickets, and follow updates on airBaltic website, added Vanags.

Earlier airBaltic announced that flights to Egypt had been put off by one day, urging passengers to contact travel agencies and tour operator Tez Tour, and follow further information on airBaltic website, Facebook and Twitter accounts, or call airBaltic.

Though neither the company's Twitter, nor Facebook account had any information - clearly on display, not in replies - about the cancelled flights.

In a reply to a customer, airBaltic said on Twitter that the Saturday flight to Sharm el-Sheikh is cancelled, according to current information.

Earlier this week, Lufthansa and British and Irish airlines temporarily cancelled flights to Sharm el-Sheikh in the wake of a Russian plane crash on the Sinai peninsula, killing all 224 people on board, in what may have been a bomb attack.
