Curfew must be observed again this weekend in Latvia

From Friday night to Sunday morning, between 22:00 and 5:00, one may not leave their place of residence, Latvian Radio reported January 8.

People may only go outside during these hours to get to and from work, a medical or veterinary care establishment. When leaving the house, one must have with them a free-form self-confirmation about the necessity to leave home, indicating the destination and times of departure and return. A template of this form is available on State Police website.

A valid identification must also be present at all times when leaving the house.

State Police representative Normunds Krapsis told Latvian Radio that police will patrol streets, especially places where gatherings to celebrate Orthodox Christmas are likely.

Administrative proceedings will be initiated when rules are broken, Krapsis said.
