First phase of Mežaparks open-air stage renovation done ahead of schedule

The first phase of the Mežaparks open-air stage renovation and reconstruction was completed and approved for use June 8, LETA was told by Riga City Council spokeswoman Baiba Gailīte.

This is 11 days ahead of schedule.

The ceremonious opening of Latvia's largest open-air stage will take place on June 18 at noon. Rīga residents will also be able to view the amphitheater also on June 20 and 21, where several cultural events marking the opening of the grand stage will take place.

After this, the grand stage will be closed to the public, as preparation works for the XXVI Song and Dance Festival will begin.

The Mežaparks open-air stage will be the venue for the culmination of this year's Song and Dance Festival - the closing concert on July 8.

The second stage of the bandstand's reconstruction and renovation will begin on August 20 and is scheduled to be completed before the summer of 2020.

The total cost of the first stage of the renovation/reconstruction project is approximately €27 million.
