Foreigners invited to try Latvian language

Until January 13, third-country nationals will be able to visit Latvian language courses in six Latvian cities, Rasa Saliņa of the "Patvērums Drošā māja" organization told LETA.

Courses take place today, Tuesday in Liepaja, on 7 January in Balvi, on 8 January in Aluksne, on 9 January 9 in Olaine and Stopiņu districts and on 13 January in Riga.

The lessons are designed to cater for different levels of language proficiency, mainly involving senior citizens, young people and foreign students, said Salina.

Access will also be given to local Latvian conversational clubs and the use of museums, libraries, schools, cultural centers to try to reduce the psychological barriers to speaking Latvian, said Salina.
