Freedom of speech event in Rīga on June 8

A conference on the theme of Freedom of Speech will be taking place in Rīga on June 8.

Titled "Freedom of speech and assembly: challenges of today", it will run all day and is part of the 10th Baltic Pride events taking place in the Latvian capital over the weekend.

According to organizers: "This year the conference aims to assemble activists, international experts, representatives from international organizations, diplomats, policy makers and creative industries to discuss the challenges the modern world is facing and how joint cooperation can facilitate the democratic changes in the countries where human rights violations is a reality... The conference will have 3 main points of focus addressed in separate sections – freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, creative industries and human rights – and is indented to be more practical and less theoretical.

The main Baltic Pride parade takes place on June 9 with both supporters and opponents of the event expected to use their right to freedom of speech about it.
