Independent Russian newspaper published in Latvia

On Friday, May 6, the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta Europe" will appear in all Latvian press outlets.

It is a publication produced by Russian free journalists in exile, including their independent view of the events in the war in Ukraine and the processes inside Russia. The newspaper is published in cooperation with the publishing house "Rīgas Vilni".

The newspaper "Novaya Gazeta", led by last year's Nobel Peace Prize winner Dmitry Muratov, ceased operations in Russia shortly after the start of the Ukrainian war, refusing to comply with the demand that war be referred to as a "special military operation" and various other restrictions placed upon truthful reporting.

Rīga has been chosen as the base for the new newspaper and also for the corresponding Internet platform Editions will be available to both Latvian and Russian readers in our country.

According to Kirill Martinov, the editor-in-chief of the new newspaper, he very much hopes that at least one of the copies of this printed edition will reach Russia itself.

Increasing numbers of Russian and Belarusian journalists have found both refuge and a base for new operations in Latvia as widespread censorship and threats against journalists who refuse to spout increasingly hysterical propaganda have become the norm in those countries.
