Huge drug bust on border with Russia

Take note – story published 5 years ago

On September 16 a 1991-born man was detained on the Grebņeva Latvian border crossing point with 145.3 kilograms of hashish in his car, the Border Guard said.

The Volswagen Passat CC used for transporting the drugs was found suspicious and subjected to thorough checks, during which the drugs were discovered in a cache under the luggage compartment. The driver, a Russian citizen, denied he knew anything about the stash.

This is the largest drug bust on Latvia's borders within the past few years. Drug trafficking of such scale carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
