Latvia's Citizenship and Migration offices to work longer hours

The Office for Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) plans to extend the working time in all Latvian departments by half an hour starting next week, PMLP Deputy Chief Executive Uldis Apsītis said in an interview to Latvian Radio July 14.

This is done to reduce queueing for the issuance of new documents. The PMLP spokesman explained that one of the reasons for the long queues is that people often do not come to documents at the time they have booked on the Internet. As another reason, Apsītis mentioned the rush of people to renew their passports to travel abroad.

Apsītis said that the working hours in Rīga PLMP branches have already been extended. According to PLMP's website, the Rīga offices work from 8:30 to 16:30 but regional offices work from 8:30 to 16:00. It is planned that the regional offices' working hours will also be extended to 16:30 from next week.

The PMLP representative reminded people who apply for documents on the Internet to alert the relevant department in time if a person is not able to make it.
