During the Ukraine support week, the public is invited to participate in the Light for Ukraine! campaign and to donate light sources to Ukrainian residents – LED lamps, rechargeable LED lamps, powerbanks, and portable chargeable batteries, the charity “Ziedot.lv” said February 14.

From Tuesday, February 14, to February 26, the Saeima House will be illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. At the Saeima House in Rīga on Tuesday, the “Light for Ukraine!” campaign was also symbolically opened.

The initiators of Ukraine support week (formally February 20 to 27) are Ukraine's Ambassador to Latvia Olexandr Mishchenko and Saeima Speaker Edvards Smiltēns (United List).

“On February 14,  2022, Ukrainian flags were raised at the Rīga City Council to express support for Ukraine's sovereignty and integration in Europe. It's been a year and the Ukrainian people still need support. Therefore, together with the Ukrainian Ambassador to Latvia, Olexandr Mischenko,Ukraine's week of support starts, asking the people of Latvia to provide light support to the people of Ukraine,” Smiltēns said.

Ukraine's ambassador to Latvia Oleksandr Mishchenko noted: “Everyone in Ukraine knows about Latvia's help. It also appeared symbolically during the visit of the Saeima chairman and showed that people in Ukraine expect help from Latvia to continue so that we can beat this evil together."

Currently, electricity supplies in Ukraine are limited and sometimes available only a few hours a day to avoid overloading the system. For this reason, it is particularly important to use energy-efficient appliances that would reduce total electricity consumption, like replacing conventional bulbs with energy-efficient LED bulbs, and using portable charging stations and lighting sticks are major support for civilians when they are in bomb shelters and for soldiers on the front.

During the week of Ukrainian support, it will be possible to send the donation from all of Latvia to Rīga free of charge through Omniva parcel machines.

It is also possible to donate funds for which to purchase energy-efficient equipment. Meanwhile, companies seeking to donate more volume are invited to contact the fund “Ziedot.lv” to email “[email protected].”

The campaign is held by the charity “Ziedot.lv.” Donated light and energy sources will be delivered to Chernihiv municipality, primarily assisting children's homes, nursery schools and schools.
