Though we all know that wild boar routinely make incursions into Latvian cities, sometimes making it as far as downtown Rīga, other animals seem to be in the loop too. The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) announced on Tuesday that a moose has visited a backyard in the city of Rēzekne.
At about midnight the VUGD received a call that a moose is walking on Raiņa street in Rēzekne, just by the windows of residential houses. The animal was wounded and its movement was severely impeded.
The tale ended with a State Forest Department team cooperating with a veterinarian and putting the moose to sleep. It was then put into the vehicle of the department, and the moose's subsequent fate was decided by the forest authority.
