The accommodation center will have a capacity of up to 250 persons. The PMLP plans to use the branch in the event of an excess of the housing capacity of the existing Mucenieki center.
The idea of a new asylum accommodation branch was explained by the global geopolitical challenges that could lead to an increase in the number of asylum seekers.
In order to ensure the successful functioning of the branch, PMLP will seek support personnel – among residents of local parishes. It is therefore intended to contribute to the economy of the municipality of Alūksne.
By the end of this year, the building is expected to be adapted to the needs of the branch of the asylum accommodation center, the necessary technical improvements and improvement work will be carried out. €700 thousand from European Union funds will be used for that purpose.
Like the Mucenieki center, the new branch of accommodation for asylum seekers will be fenced and guarded throughout the day. If necessary, PMLP will cooperate with the State Police to maintain public order.
