Police chief warns of war of words during Baltic Pride

Take note – story published 5 years ago

Verbal altercations are inevitable during the Baltic Pride parade taking place June 9 in Rīga. Nevertheless, law enforcement officers will work to prevent any physical confrontation, Ints Ķuzis, chief of the State Police, said in an interview with LNT commercial TV channel June 8.

The police chief recalled the first pride parade in Rīga and admitted that the police were unprepared to deal with the situation when anti-gay protests turned violent. This year’s event, however, cannot be compared to the first pride, he said.

The Baltic Pride 2018 events are taking place in Rīga this week, with the main event, the pride parade, scheduled for Saturday, June 9.
