Prosecutor General blasts Rīga police over stalling

Take note – story published 7 years ago

The management of the State Police should pay special attention to the Rīga Region Department over several cases of inaction or delayed action, Prosecutor General Ēriks Kalnmeiers told Latvian Television (LTV) Wednesday.

Kalnmeiers based his claim on two cases. One concerns the disappearance of cigarette manufacturing equipment, which had the status of evidence in a criminal case, as reported by LTV's "De Facto" early May.

While the other revolves around expensive cleaning materials, potentially just water, being sold to the Rīga municipal transport company Rīgas Satiksme in 2013.

Kalnmeiers called for the police inaction to be investigated and said that inquiries should be made over why criminal proceedings have been deliberately delayed in the Rīga Region Department of the State Police.

"I see unprofessional action by the Customs Police and inaction by the Rīga Region Department Police," he said.
