Russian submarine tracked off Latvian waters

Take note – story published 9 years ago

The National Armed Forces (NBS) tweeted Sunday that its Coast Guard patrol boats sighted a Russian armed forces Kilo-class submarine about 27 nautical miles from Latvia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) maritime borderline.

The identification of the Russian navy's underwater vessel Saturday came just days after a previous sighting of a submarine support ship, the Kashtan-class SS-750 Thursday in about the same area.

The tally for Russian military craft skirtings of Latvian airspace and maritime border zones up to September 1 of this year exceeds 170 incidents already, reports the Defense Ministry.
