The second support center will be located in the former building of Riga Technical University in Old Riga, Kaļķu Street 1.
As reported, the center operating now in Congress Hall has more demand for assistance than it can provide. Latvian Television observed that on Wednesday, compared to previous days, work was more organized. Snacks and drinks are distributed, and as of Thursday, free lunch will also be provided. People are also divided into flows, depending on what help they need.
Rīga Vice Mayor Linda Ozola told LTV that a total of 863 refugees were fully serviced. 549 mobile phone SIM cards have been issued to people, as well as 403 vouchers for public transport in Rīga. The municipality has housed 374 refugees in tourist accommodation.
At the center, employees work in three shifts from 9 to 18 Monday to Friday to serve as many people as possible.
Before the Mayor's announcement, Ozola said that the second center will be needed only if there are still busloads of refugees brought to Latvia by the end of the week. Additional centers in other municipalities would then also be needed.,
