The Taiwan-representing Taipei Mission in Latvia has handed over one million US dollars to the charity “Ziedot.lv” intended to support Ukrainian civilians, Latvian Television reported April 30.

The money will be used to aid Ukrainians cover the needs in Latvia which are not covered by available state aid, such as specific medical needs.

“Taiwanese people are very generous, both by donating money and various other things, including medical goods and clothes donated by many households. We feel that with the international community we need to invest in a meaningful way so that the people who suffer receive it,” said Andrew Lee, representative of the Taipei Mission in Latvia.

Nine million euros have been donated to Ukraine by Latvians so far, but together with the Taipei Mission's donation, the total amount of donations amounts to €10 million.

“It's a huge sum for a small country. And most has been sent to Ukraine because clearly there is war there. Four million for defense and the other four for food, medicine,” said Rūta Dimanta, Ziedot.lv's representative.
