This season’s first flu patient has been officially confirmed, said Ilze Araja, a representative of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) on November 12.

She said that the flu intensity in Latvia is low as in other European countries right now as just one flu patient has been officially registered.

At the same time, incidence with other respiratory viruses is growing, mostly among pre-school children and teenagers.

In her words, in the past weeks several European countries have reported on the start of the flu activity, including Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, the UK, Estonia, Lithuania, France, Slovakia, Romania, Portugal, Malta.
