This weekend it's all about poetry and music.

Pēteris Cedriņš poetry reading

The Latvian American poet Pēteris Cedriņš, who's having a book out with Neputns publishing house soon, is reading poetry at Bolderāja bar in Rīga on Saturday evening. As he says, "The evening will be heavily bilingual -- I write almost entirely in English, but tend to narrate in Latvian."

Sigma band at Republika

Sigma's 2014 poetry concert at the Rīga Cathedral was an event you'd remember for decades, a crown jewel bringing together the best of Latvian poetry and pop music.

Luckily, Sigma are still going strong and you can catch them at Republika in Old Rīga on Saturday evening at 10 p.m

Performance theory in Rīga

The famous dancer and performance artist Maureen Fleming will on Sunday at 5 p.m. hold a performance lecture on the changing role of art.

"This one-hour presentation geared to third-level comprises excerpts of Fleming’s repertoire. The excerpts are presented with intermittent projected videos and narratives that deal with the philosophical underpinnings of Fleming’s work and process and its relationship to the changing role of art in society."
