When Russia launched the war in Ukraine, Pozņaks asked people to donate vehicles to Ukrainians.
"I only tweeted, Latvian people did the rest," said Pozņaks.

After the results of the public vote, three candidates were shortlisted for the title: Rīga Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis, head of the Europe Direct Dienvidlatgale center Oscars Zuģickis, and Pozņaks. In total, 12 candidates were nominated, including Latvian Television journalist Gints Amoliņš, who is currently reporting from Ukraine.
The organization European Movement – Latvia stated: “Reinis shows European values in practical work. Capable of showing fascinating altruism rather than using Ukraine's war as a PR option. Our world changed on February 24. At first I was skeptical of the idea, but it worked! And still works! Effectively assisting Ukraine, which is fighting for the freedom of Europe as a whole. Dedicated and brave. A real contribution to peace in Europe. Solidarity is one of Europe's values, Latvia is now recognized as one of the most supportive countries in Ukraine. Thanks to Reinis Pozņaks, too. Showed that a regular person can do a great and significant job. It inspires.”
The title of the European of the Year in Latvia is awarded to the person who has provided the most significant contribution to strengthening links between Latvia and the rest of Europe, raising Latvia's profile in Europe and integrating European values in Latvia. The choice is made by public online vote. This year, the European of the Year in Latvia was announced for the 25th time.
