Cold will intensify next week in Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Cold in Latvia will intensify in the coming days, according to forecasts.

During the weekend, there will be no significant snowfall but local snow clouds will form over the Baltic Sea, which will occasionally affect coastal regions, mainly the regions of South Kurzeme, Ventspils, Talsi and Tukums.

The wind will be slow and change directions during the weekend, so fog and frost will form in many places at night and in the mornings. The sun will often shine during the day.

Temperature contrasts will increase due to slow winds and low-moving cloud areas, as temperatures will drop faster in places where the sky will clear at night and in the mornings.

The minimum temperature on holiday nights in most of the country will be -13 C to -5 C, in Vidzeme and Latgale -15 C to -20 C. During the day, the maximum temperature will be -9 C to -4 C, in Kurzeme -3 C to zero.

Frost will intensify further in the first half of next week. At night, temperatures will drop even below the -20 degree mark for places in eastern Latvia, sometimes it will snow, more often and harder on the coast. The cold will ease in the second half of the week.

Current forecasts show that after December 8, warmer air from western Europe could pour into our region, which would likely initially arrive with snow or even blizzards moving into wet snow and thaw.
