More Latvian heat records tumble Wednesday

On Wednesday afternoon, the air temperature in Daugavpils reached 27.1 degrees Celsius, according to information from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVĢMC).

This is the national heat record for April 10. Previously, the warmest April 10 was in 2017, when it was 19.1 degrees in Mersrags, so the record was not just bested but absolutely smashed.

It is the third time this month that the maximum temperature record for early April has been set. Previously, the earliest spring temperature of 27 C was recorded in 1950, when it happened much later in the month – on April 23. This year it was recorded 13 days earlier.

Only the absolute record of the maximum air temperature of the month, which is 27.9 degrees, has remained unbeaten, and it was set on April 24, 2000 in Riga.

Local heat records were broken widely across Latvia on both Tuesday and Wednesday, but much cooler weather it expected from Thursday, as previously reported.
