Little hope for white Christmas this year in Latvia

This week, Latvia's weather will get warmer, thaw will set in over the weekend, and forecasts show that before Christmas, most of the snow will have melted.

During the working week, temperatures will still hover around zero, mostly within -3 C to +3  but in the early morning of Thursday and Friday, cold can intensify to around -8 degrees in places as the sky clears. Tuesday and Wednesday will see slow winds, so fog will also form, as well as snow and rain, but on Thursday and Friday, the clouds will clear out at times, allowing the sun to shine at some point.

Ice will often form on roads and pavements this working week.

During the weekend with gustier southwesterly, westerly winds, warmer air will come to us, temperatures will rise to +2 C to +7 C on Sunday. Rain is also expected.

Thaw is also likely to stick around early next week, melting snow in Kurzeme, Zemgale and western Vidzeme, including Rīga.

During the second half of the month, the Atlantic cyclone will continue to determine the weather in the region so the weather will be often variable.

There is some hope for a new layer of snow for Christmas, but it is uncertain for now.
