It will get chillier over Christmas in Latvia

Thaw in Latvia will continue in the coming days, but will get cooler as the Christmas holidays begin, according to forecasts.

Tuesday is expected to see the warmest weather this week, with air temperatures reaching +5 to +9 C, while between Wednesday and Friday, air temperatures will be within 0 to +5 C both nights and days.

Rainfall is often expected during the working week, especially overnight into Tuesday as well as overnight into Friday. Strong southwesterly, westerly winds are also expected Tuesday, with gusts of around 20 meters per second along the coast.

A yellow alert is in force throughout Latvia due to rapidly rising water levels in rivers. In some places in Kurzeme, rivers have already overflooded, and there is expected to be flooding of levees and lower places, but in densely populated areas there is no threat of major flooding. Some stretches of rural roads may be flooded.

Forecasts for the Christmas holidays are still variable, however, it is likely to snow in most of Latvia on Saturday. The weather overall will be variable over the holidays, often with gusty winds and precipitation.
