Rīgans asked to work remotely due to heavy snowfall

Rīga City Council distributed a call November 28 morning to work remotely as far as possible since cleaning the roads has proven to be difficult.

Heavy snowfall began in Riga on Tuesday morning and in a short period of time the snow layer increased by 10 centimeters, as well as snowdrifts of up to 20 centimeters were formed, therefore the streets and sidewalks are difficult to move on, Rīga City Council said. As of 1 AM, all available machinery has been involved in anti-slip sprinkling, but as of 4 AM pavement cleaning has started involving 48 technical units and seven crews doing manual work in places where no machinery is present.

Rīga Municipality invites residents to be particularly cautious, to work remotely as far as possible, or to plan the departure time and route in good time, taking into account that the journey may take longer than usual.

All municipal services and available machinery are involved in the maintenance of streets and pavements in Riga, however, in order to facilitate the cleaning of streets and reduce possible congestion, residents are invited to make the most of public transport, especially if the car is not equipped with winter tires.
