Warmer weather could come to Latvia mid-December

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Cool and snowy weather is here to stay for the coming week, while thaw is possible in mid-December, according to weather forecasts.

Thursday will still see snowfall in many places. By Friday, more than 15 centimeters of fresh snow will have covered the ground, especially Latgale. Less snow is expected next week, but clouds coming from the sea will still bring heavy snowfall to places in the west and central parts of the country.

Air temperatures are mostly expected between 0 and -10 degrees, but as the sky clears it will become colder after sunset. In the eastern areas of the country, air temperatures can sometimes drop to -15 to -20 C. The wind will mostly be slow.

Around December 10 and afterwards, the Atlantic cyclones may activate, and warm air may come to Latvia with gusty winds and temperatures rising above zero and even above +5 C. The ground will stay white in the eastern part of the country but thaw is possible elsewhere.
