Drenching to dry out for delightful Sunday

Skies over Latvia were cloudy Thursday morning and promised to stay that way until late in the afternoon, bringing heavy rains to western Kurzeme and south-central Zemgale, as well as sharp temperature differences between the exteme ends of the land, report the weather services.

Forecasts call for a gradual clearing from west to east, as Vidzeme and Latgale will get the heavier rains toward the second half of the afternoon.

High temperatures are expected to climb to between +11 and +16 degrees Celsius in the west, while the eastern provinces will see notably warmer temps from +17 to +22 degrees.

While Friday will still see some partly cloudy skies and rainy weather in Latgale’s far southeast, they will clear overnight to Saturday, causing likely scattered fog and frost at ground level. Lows will dip down to between +2 and +7 degrees.

Saturday, too, will see a mix of sun and clouds, with Latgale again expecting some brief rainfall. Frosts are possible overnight to Sunday as temperatures drop to +1 and +7, but the day looks to be shaping up as dry and sunny. High temperatures will vary from +16 to +19 degrees in inland areas, to between +12 and +14 degrees on the lightly breezy coasts.
