While southwestern Kurzeme experienced some light rain overnight, the skies over Vidzeme and Latgale provinces were mostly clear.
Today’s state Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) forecast calls for scattered clouds in the western and central districts, including Riga, with sunshine breaking through occasionally and only a small chance of light rain. The country’s eastern zones will see much more sun, but daytime highs throughout will rise to between +12 and +16 degrees through light winds of varying direction.
The high-pressure anti-cyclone that arrived at the beginning of the week will retain its influence over the weekend, say forecasts, however a moister air mass promises a bit of rain on election day Saturday.
Overnight lows will be between +1 and +8 degrees, possibly not dipping below +10 on the coast. Light winds of varying direction will continue to prevail.
Saturday will be partly cloudy, with morning fog lingering in places before giving way to the possibility of light rain and highs up to between +12 and +16 degrees.
Overnight to Sunday will again see the clearest skies over the eastern inland districts, where lows will be below freezing around -2 degrees in place. Meanwhile Kurzeme may see some light rain, avoiding frosts with lows between +1 and +9.
Sunday promises to be the weekend’s sunniest day, with no rain expected. However, temperatures should chill a bit more, hovering between highs of +9 and +14 with light easterly winds.
Despite the sun, Riga residents should prepare for a notable dip in temperature Sunday, when highs may reach only up to +11 and +12 degrees.
