An orange alert has been issued, the second-highest classification of dangerous weather conditions. The system runs: green (no major issues), yellow (situation deteriorating), orange (becoming dangerous) and red (very dangerous).
Orange alert for snowfall is issued when 10-14 centimeters of snow accumulate over 12 hours or less. Heaviest snowfall is expected in the central and southern part of Latvia, including Rīga and the vicinity. According to forecasts, until Wednesday, 15 to 25 centimeters of fresh snow will have accumulated in these regions.
Power cuts might occur and driving conditions are difficult, with poor visibility and slippery roads.
