Meteorological winter brings a five-day cold snap to Latvia

Take note – story published 4 years ago

The next five days will bring a cold snap for the majority of Latvia, according to forecasts.

Over the weekend temperatures will dip to 0..-5 degrees during the night, reaching as low as low as -6..-9 degrees in Latgale and Vidzeme. Daytime temperatures will be only a few degrees warmer.

Weather will be for the most part cloudy with some areas experiencing sunshine on Saturday. On Sunday, some areas may see light snow.

Over the weekend the wind speed will decrease, so the air won’t feel as cold as on Friday.

Monday and Tuesday will see similarly cold weather, but during the middle of the week temperatures will steadily increase and bring both rain and snow.

As at least part of Latvia will experience five 24-hour periods with average temperatures below zero, Latgale and Vidzeme will officially experience the beginning of meteorological winter.
