Temperatures fell below -20 in Latvia Thursday morning

The coldest weather in Latvia was observed in Daugavpils Thursday morning, with the temperatures falling to -27.4 degrees Celsius, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVGMC)

In Vidzeme the temperature reached -26 C.

In other LVGMC observational stations, temperatures slipped to mostly -14 C to -24 C, while the warmest weather was on the coast in Kurzeme, with -12.9 C in Mērsrags and -8.9 C in Kolka.

In Bauska, a new record was reached with -21.6 C. It has never been so cold in Bauska on February 18. The previous record was -20 C recorded in 1954.
