Sculpture culture on the beach in Jūrmala

A visit to the beach in the final days of summer could take on a cultural air in Latvia this week with the opening of a sculpture exhibition on Dzintari beach, Jūrmala.

The retrospective exhibition "The Art Beach. Reflections" which continues the tradition of exhibiting sculptural objects on the beach which has been taking place for the past three years.

The installations will be officially opened on Friday, August 30, at 17.00 on the beach at the end of Turaidas Street and will include an opportunity to watch artist Irina Trumpele painting on the surface of the water.

The exhibition will run until September 29, and will display sculptural works of art in bronze, brass, steel and wood, allowing the art to blend naturally with the environment, making the sculptures accessible to every beach visitor. Beach sand, shells, amber and other materials found in the seaside environment have also been used in the artistic compositions. During the twilight hours, the sculptural objects will be illuminated.

Artists represented include Robert Diner, Andris Loss and Kristaps Strauts.
