Three for the Weekend: Wintery nights

For this weekend, we suggest three opportunities for you to embrace the dark, the light, and the contrast between them. Be sure to wear all your layers!

Rīga Zoo nights

Rīga Zoo is hosting its annual night campaign until January 7, which means the zoo will be open longer than usual – final entrance is at 20:00 but you can wander the zoo until 21:00. Animal feeding times which usually are not seen by visitors will also be experienced, as well as the Zoo's winter decor.

Rīga Zoo is located at Meža prospekts 1, Rīga. More on the zoo's website.

Light festival "Winter mischief"

Until January 14, a festival of light “Winter Mischief” (Ziemas nedarbi) is be held in the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia (Kandavas Street 2, Rīga). The festival of light is a unified trail - a colorful winter experience with lights, poetry and actors, installations and music, video projections, and lasers.

The “Winter Mischief” festival in LU Botanical Garden welcomes visitors every night from 17:00 to 22:00 (last entrance at 21:00).

Winter Light garden

The Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air museum (Brīvdabas Street 21) will welcome visitors to its light garden until January 7 every night 17:00 to 22:00 (last entrance 21:00).

The light garden is a trail of objects based on Latvian folk tales, folk songs, ancient beliefs and fairytales on the theme of solstice.

A traditional solstice menu will also be offered at the Solstice Cafe located on the trail.
