Explore legendary Latvian animation at 'Fantadroms Night'

The International Short Film Festival “2Annas” invites viewers to the first Latvian-created superhero animated series “Fantadroms” on February 14 at 20:00. The event “Fantadroms Night” will take place at the Culture House “Atmoda,” (Stabu Street 10), and the entrance to the event is free, organizers said.

The series shows the viewer the imagination of a boy, a miraculous journey through the depths of the universe. The film's protagonist Indrķis XIII – a shape-shifting robot mostly taking the shape of a kitten – tackles various tense situations and saves friends from danger in space.

The series is friendly for speakers of all languages as it contains next to no text.

“Fantadroms Night” is the opening event of Riga International Short Film Festival “2Annas”. The festival's 2024 focus theme is “mind,” dedicated to human rational and irrational nature and creativity.

In 1985, the animated series received the Latvian National Film Award “Lielais Kristaps”, strengthening its place in the history of Latvian animation. The animation was first seen on screens in 1984, directed and written by Ansis Bērziņš and operator Austra Gulbe. During the event, the audience will be offered 13 episodes of “Fantadroms,” which will be shown in chronological order.

The international short film festival “2Annas” will take place in Rīga from April 5 to 11.
