Rīga announces summer event program

On Monday, June 12, the Rīga summer cultural program was unveiled at the Vērmanes Garden. Throughout the summer, starting with the Midsummer festival, Rīga will offer festivities, concerts, sports, cultural and other activities throughout the summer, Rīga City Council said in a release.

“The events of the summer of Rīga will be even broader and more ambitious this year! More extensive because the festival will take place in even more neighborhoods. Longer, as the Rīga summer cultural program starts in June. And more ambitious, because this year, the summer events in Riga also include the events of Midsummer, as well as the Song and Dance Celebration program. And, of course, the first publicly announced drone show – a memorable event for children and adults – will take place in Rīga. This will be a unique event for our city in anticipation of Riga's 822nd birthday!” said Mārtiņš Staķis, Rīga Mayor.

Between June 15 and 22, a number of pre-Midsummer events will take place in Rīga, followed by Midsummer festivities on June 23 and 24. The Song and Dance Festival will continue the streak starting June 30.

The Rīga summer cultural program will be complemented by contemporary cultural events organized by Riga NGOs, taking place July 10 to August 31, whereas on August 19, Rīga's birthday celebrations will take place with the first official drone show in Lucavsala and other activities.

All information on the program of events is available on the dedicated website - vasara.riga.lv (in Latvian) as well as on social media at "Rīgā notiek".
