Historically, Livonia was made up of the region that today is northwestern Latvia and southwestern Estonia.
Since 2006, every year in August, people from Latvia and Estonia gather to celebrate the harvest and strengthen links between residents of border towns. This year the North Livonian festival will take place on August 15.
This year, there will a traditional crafts market, offering both Latvian and Estonian goods for purchase, as well as an open-air exhibition by artists of North Vidzeme.
The festival will be opened by the local society of Ainaži Culture Center, guests from Estonia, singer Janis Moisejs, while children will have the opportunity to watch a play and participate in creative workshops.
In the building of Ainaži Culture Center (Valdemāra Street 50, Ainaži), documentary Ahto. Chasing a Dream will be played. The film tells the story of Ahto, a man born in Ainaži who, in 1938, sets sail with his team to go to conquer the world's oceans.
Later, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a concert by the contemporary folk music association Raxtu Raxti and to dance to the music by band Audiokvartāls.
