Three for the Weekend: Supporting Ukraine

This weekend is a tragic one for millions, as two years pass since Russia launched its full-scale war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Here are a few events taking place in solidarity of Ukraine.

Concert – Together for Ukraine

On February 24, at 18:30, Latvian and Ukrainian singers and musicians will join together in a charity event to express their solidarity and support to the Ukrainian people.

The live concert at the Latvian National Library will also be streamed here on LSM. Performances by Ukrainian and Latvian singers and musicians in the concert program: ethnogroup "Ogas", Ralfs Eilands, Andrejs Osokins, Jānis Stībelis, Marija Naumova, Miks Galvanovskis, Kārlis Kazāks, "Sudden Lights", Intars Busulis and Abonementa orchestra, Markus Riva, Viktorija Prituļaka and Anastasia Vasilenko.

Proceeds from the concert will go to the Ukrainian armed forces and Ukrainian children in partnership with the charity foundation Ziedot.lv.

Rally in support of Ukraine

On February 24 Rīga will host a rally “Together until victory!” by the Freedom Monument.

Meeting will begin at 12:30. The official program will begin at 13:00.

Several Latvian and Ukrainian officials and social activists will address the participants of the event. There will be candle workshops and donation points.

Participants of the meeting are invited to take Ukrainian and Latvian flags with them, as well as to include Ukrainian flag colors in their clothing, take yellow and blue flowers and candles to be laid at the Freedom Monument and the Embassy of Ukraine.

Stop the War

In Rīga, Cultural Center "Imanta" the Riga Reggae band will play an acoustic concert "Stop the War" on February 24, 19:00.

The band will play originals and covers, touching upon simple but socially vital values such as peace, love, freedom, equality, and joy.

Other events

These days, an audiovisual projection dedicated to the support of Ukraine, created by the internationally renowned Czech light artist Alex Dovis, will be displayed on the facade of the Riga Congress Hall.

One of the main features is the creation of graffiti with fluorescent colors, thus creating bright and expressive works of light art. It will be shown on February 23, 24 and 25 , from 18:00 to 23:00.

Also on February 24 , the Riga Monuments Agency will illuminate the Freedom Monument in the colors of the Ukrainian flag from sunset to sunrise.

On February 24 at 9:00, Latvia is invited to join in a moment of silence for Ukraine. At 12:00, most Latvian media will jointly play the Ukrainian anthem.
