'Democracy festival' to take place in Kuldīga, Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year and 3 months ago

This week, July 28 and 29, a Democracy Festival will take place in the city of Kuldīga for the third time, the organizers of the event said.

The Democracy Festival is an event to practice democratic skills – try to talk to strangers and listen to opposing opinions, and enjoy "democratic togetherness".

On the evening of July 28, the festival will open talks at the Democracy Café, in which visitors will be randomly seated at tables, so that, under the leadership of a "secret guest", they could chat about a set subject in an informal atmosphere.

On the same evening, the premiere of a performance "Deķis" (Blanket) based on the Constitution of Latvia will take place. The director Juris Spulenieks and the actors Edgars Samītis and Indra Burkovska will find answers to the questions of what the Constitution is, whether it helps, where the original of the document is and how it affects our daily lives. The first day will end with a "European Ideas" symposium.

On July 29 there will be a variety of events throughout the day: a Forum Theatre, a Democracy lawsuit, an item exchange point, a Democracy picnic, conversation games “Democracy Mirror”, workshops and others.
