On Friday, August 14, the Riga Festival - the capital's 819th birthday celebrations - will begin with a concert from legendary musician and composer Raimonds Pauls, themed walks, sports activities, a show for children and several musical events.

The Riga Festival 2020 will start with Raimonds Pauls' concert presentation " My Riga", which is intended as a thank you for all those involved in guarding against COVID-19. Doctors, police officers, social workers, firefighters, national guard members and others - have been invited to attend the concert. The concert will be recorded and broadcast on August 16 on LTV1 at 21.10 as the three-day festival draws to a close.

On Friday, residents and guests of the city will be able to enjoy a number of other musical events from Dixieland jazz to early music.

From the first day of the holiday, those interested will have the opportunity to enjoy and engage in themed walks. Families with children will be able to go for a longer walk around the Old Town and at the same time participate in an educational game, in which everyone can become a winner and receive a badge as an Old Riga expert. Visitors are also invited to enjoy a virtual cinema walk, during which they will have the opportunity to get to know the places where famous films have been made and many Latvian and foreign movie stars have been filmed.

Everyone will be able to test their athletic skills in endurance exercises and health-promoting competitions in Victory Park at the event "Healthy Riga Healthy Spirit". Sports fans will have the opportunity to watch competitions in skate park sports with the participation of the most prominent Baltic athletes in the competition "Riga Skate Park Sports Cup 2020", as well as admire athletes competing in windsurfing's "Baltic Challenge Cup".

The organizers of the festival urge visitors to follow the national restrictions and the recommendations of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control in relation to the spread of COVID-19. In order to ensure epidemiological  safety during the festival , it is possible that not all visitors will be able to participate in all of the events. The organizers also remind that several events require free invitations, which limits the number of visitors.

The full Riga Festival program is available on the website  www.rigassvetki.lv with an English language option, though changes are also possible in the program. You can follow the news on the Twitter, Facebook and Instagram  accounts of the Riga Festival social network . As every year, also this year, an information tent will be set up at the Laima clock near the Freedom Monument and booklets of the holiday program will be available at tourist information centers and event venues.
