Musician, band 'Pērkons' member Uģis Muzikants dies

Uģis Muzikants, keyboardist of the legendary Latvian rock band Pērkons, passed away on January 16, as announced in the band's post on Facebook.

"We report with great sadness that in the early hours of this morning our friend, master of synthesizers, and wonderful man Uģis Muzikants has gone to play the keys of heaven. It's happened too early and too suddenly. We mourn with those close to Uģis. We will dedicate the concert scheduled for Friday, January 19 at the VEF Culture Palace to you, our friend!" the band said.

Muzikants first started playing with Pērkons in 2016, formed collaborations, and later became a permanent participant. He also worked in the Latvian hardrock band “Lapsenes bize”.

Pērkons was formed in the 1980s and was seen as a rebellious band, becoming a messenger of the Latvian independence fight in the late 1980s and 1990s.
