Rīga will host Olympic basketball qualification matches

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced November 27 that Latvia will be one of four organizers of the qualification tournament for the Olympic Games.

In addition the opponents of the Latvian national basketball team were determined at a draw in Switzerland.

Latvia has been drawn in Group A of the tournament ad will play its games at home against Georgia and the Philippines. 

Meanwhile Brazil, Montenegro and Cameroon are drawn in Group B.

Along with Rīga in Latvia, Piraeus in Greece, Valencia in Spain and San Juan in Puerto Rico will host the Olympic qualification tournament. 

Spain, Lebanon and Angola will play in Group A in Valencia, and Poland, Finland and the Bahamas in Group B.

In Piraeus, Slovenia, New Zealand and Croatia will play in Group A, while Greece, Dominican Republic and Egypt will play in Group B. 

Meanwhile, in San Juan, Lithuania, Mexico and Ivory Coast will play in Group A, while in Group B will be Puerto Rico, Italy and Bahrain.

Thus 24 teams will participate in the qualification, but only one team from each venue will advance to the Paris Olympics.  The qualification tournaments will take place from July 2 to 7 2024, with the main Olympic Games starting at the end of July.
