Latvian athlete Aigars Apinis was awarded the bronze medal in the men's discus throw at the Tokyo Paralympics after the original third-place finisher was disqualified, the Latvian Paralympic Committee told the LETA newswire August 30.

Apinis placed fourth in the discus throw, F52 class, with a result of 19.54 meters.

Piotr Kosewicz of Poland won the gold medal with a result of 20.02 meters, Croatia's Velimir Sandor placed second with 19.98 meters, and India's Vinod Kumar was third with a result of 19.98 meters.

The International Paralympic Committee then concluded that Kumar had competed in a wrong disability class and, as a result, the bronze medal went to Apinis.
