One of Latvia's main hopes for a second medal of the Beijing Winter Olympics came close but finished off the podium February 20.

The Latvian four-man bobsleigh team of Oskars Kibermanis, Davis Springis, Matiss Miknis and Edgars Nemme finished in fifth place in the event.

Germany's bob team piloted by Francesco Friedrich won the gold medals, clocking three minutes and 54.3 seconds in four runs. Another German team piloted by Johannes Lochner placed second, 0.37 seconds back, while Canada's Justin Kripps was third, 0.79 seconds back.

The Latvian team finished 0.97 seconds behind Friedrich.

Latvia finished the Games with a single medal: bronze in the luge team relay event.
