Latvia's Aļona Ostapenko defeated Russia's Anstasia Pavlyuchenkova with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in a strained second round of Rogers Cup 2019 on Wednesday, August 7, according to tournament organisers.

In the quarterfinals, Ostapenko will play Czech Marie Bouzkova, who is currently World No. 91.

As LSM.lv reported previously, Ostapenko began the tournament with a victory over France's Caroline Garcia (World No. 22).

Latvia's No.1 Anastasija Sevastova, however, lost to China's Shuai Zhang (World No. 35) on Tuesday, August 6. Both Latvians failed to go through to the second round in doubles.

The Canadian Open is the third oldest tournament in all of tennis, behind Wimbledon and the US Open.
