The company DG31 Ltd, owned by the real estate developer Galio Group, has announced an international design competition for the development of the historical Zunda parks territory at Daugavgrīvas Street 31 in Rīga.

In this large area of eight hectares, located between Daugavgrīvas Street and Zunda canal, it is planned to develop a modern multifunctional quarter of commercial and residential buildings.

“This is a very interesting and quite complicated project, so together with the responsible authorities of the city we have carried out extensive research and preparatory work, and our intention is to find the best solutions for the development of Zunda park quarter as a modern and popular place for the residents of Riga to live, work and relax,” said Aisvidas Sriebalius, a board member of Galio Group in anouncing the competition.

"We are focused on sustainable urban development, so the aim of the competition is to obtain high-quality and architecturally smart solutions in order to select the most appropriate option, which will form the basis for the development of the entire area in the first stage," Sriebalius said.

Interested participants of the competition can submit their design proposals until October 12, 2020. The decision on the most appropriate solution will be based on the rating of nine professional industry experts. The competition jury consists of Latvian, Lithuanian and British architects and urban planners, plus representatives of the responsible institutions - Riga City Construction Board, Riga City Development Department, Riga City Architect's Office, and DG31 Ltd.

The goal of the competition is to determine the best among the sketches submitted in the competition, which will be used as a basis for developing a construction plan for the first phase of the development.

The total prize fund of the competition is EUR 42,000. Interested participants can get acquainted with the competition regulations and download them on the following websites: https://www.latarh.lv and https://zundaparks.metukonkurss.lv/
