Retail figures down 2.4% in Latvia

Calendar-adjusted data (at constant prices) published December 29 by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to November 2022, in November 2023 total retail trade turnover reduced by 2.4 %.

Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 1.6 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) decreased by 2.8 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 2.4 %.

A turnover drop was registered in retail sale in non-specialized stores selling mainly non-food products (27.9 %), and it was affected by the change in kind of primary economic activity of separate enterprises. Turnover declined also in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 5.3 %) and retail sale of hardware, instruments, construction materials and sanitary equipment (5.1 %).

As compared to November 2022, the largest turnover growth was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 7.8 %), retail sale in stalls or markets (7.3 %) and retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (6.3 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices fell by 2.2 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to October, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in November 2023 increased by 1.0 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 1.2 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 1.3 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 4.3 %.
