Sending letters will be costlier in Latvia

SJSC "Latvijas pasts" (Latvian Postal Service, LP) has submitted to the Public Service Regulatory Commission (SPRK) a draft tariff for universal postal services which, from January 1, 2025, provides for an increase in the tariffs for domestic and cross-border consignments, according a notice in the official publication "Latvijas vēstnesis".

The changes in tariffs are related to changes in customer habits, a decrease in the volume of traditional postal items, an increase in transport and logistics costs, an increase in energy prices, and an increase in employee salaries, the statement said.

The price of a domestic parcel (from 1.001 to two kilograms) will increase by 7.3% from €4.76 to €5.11, a domestic registered parcel (from 1.001 to two kilograms) will cost €7.05 instead of €6.21, an increase of 13.5%, while a domestic insured parcel (from 1.001 to two kilograms) will decrease by 8.4% from €6.93 to €6.35.

The price of a domestic ordinary letter weighing up to 20 grams will increase by 36.4% from €1.65 to €2.25, and the price of a domestic registered letter weighing up to 20 grams will be €4.15 instead of €3.1, an increase of 33.9%, and the price of a domestic insured letter weighing up to 20 grams will increase by 9.9% to €4.2 instead of €3.82.

The delivery tariff for subscription newspapers will also increase.

Cross-border postal tariffs are also set to change, including, for example, a simple letter to the US weighing up to 20 grams will double from €1.83 to €3.72, while sending a registered parcel to the US (up to one kilo) will cost €20.6 instead of €23.91, a 13.8% reduction.

The tariff for sending a registered parcel to Estonia weighing up to two kilograms will fall by 9.6% from €14.24 to €12.88, while the tariff for sending a parcel to Lithuania weighing up to two kilograms will drop by 14.5% from €17.26 to €14.75.
