On September 2, Latvian Postal service (Latvijas Pasts, LP) will issue a new postage stamp dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the only regularly rolling narrow-gauge railway line in the Baltic, Gulbene-Alūksne, said LP.

The railway line locomotive “Ferdinands” is depicted on the postage stamp.

The narrow-gauge railway Gulbene-Alūksne is a cultural and historical railway that has remained from a railway line of more than 210 kilometers on the Pļaviņas-Gulbene-Alūksne-Ape-Valka route.

The Gulbene-Alūksne section spans 33 kilometers and is the only railway line across the Baltic that still provides regular passenger services. It runs daily but twice a month it is possible for the public to travel with the historic steam locomotive Ferdinands.

The nominal value of the new postage stamp is EUR 1.83 and is intended to cover consignments of Group 10 countries in the weight category up to 20 grams, while the postage stamp issue amounts to 50,000 copies. A special envelope of 500 copies has also been issued with a postage stamp.

The author of the stamp and envelope design is artist Aleksejs Naumovs.
