Several 'temporary' bicycle lanes to be installed in Rīga this year

This year, €11.5 million will be devoted to the redevelopment of Rīga streets, Rīga City Council Traffic and Transport committee said February 22.

Half a million will be dedicated to the construction of temporary bike lanes. Temporary lanes are supposed to help in the Covid-19 time when more people use bicycles to avoid public transportation.

Temporary lanes are planned on Dzirciema, Pulkveža Brieža, Duntes Street, as well as Raņķa dambis and elsewhere.

Reconstruction of A.Deglava railway bridge, Brasas railway bridge, the redevelopment of Ģertrūde Street, Turgeņeva and Dandāles street and repairs and improvement of other streets is planned.Turgheneva and Dandal streets, and the repair and improvement of other streets and road routes.

The spending plan for this year's program foresees a “Grant for municipal roads (streets)” of €53.8 million. In turn, the State Road Fund will allocate 21,4466% of the total funding to Riga, with the capital funding estimated to be €11.5 million in 2021. Together with €5 million of unused funds in previous periods, the funding for the activities to be carried out in 2021 amounts to €16.5 million.
