Disgraced MP Grevcova leaves party but will carry on in Saeima

Saeima deputy Glorija Grevcova, who this week was found guilty of lying to the Central Election Commission (CVK) about her past, has left the "For Stability!" party and its Saeima faction, she has announced.

"For Stability!" chairman Aleksejs Rosļikovs previously stated that Grevcova's decision was taken after the aforementioned court verdict, which sentenced the MP to 160 hours of community service.

Grevcova herself said that her withdrawal was not related to the court's verdict. It was said to be an "independent and considered decision".

She also said that she will not return to either the party or the faction even if the final decision of the court is acquittal on appeal.

She has no intention of laying aside her Saeima mandate, however, and will continue to pick up her deputy's pay check while voting according to her own personal views.

At the same time, Grevcova shared a video on the social network "TikTok" in which she blamed someone else for changing her CV data after she had given the information to be submitted to CVK to Rosļikovs.

"The data was changed. I do not want and refuse to take the blame for the actions of another person," she claimed.

By leaving the faction, Grevcova has become the first independent MP in the 14th Saeima convocation. As a result the "For Stability!" faction will now have 10 rather than 11 members.
